By Richard Rspad Connecticut offers a unique laid back atmosphere with a rather stunning backdrop. Honeymooning in Connecticut offers you the chance to mix beauty with romance. Connecticut is one of the East Coast’s most scenic and romantic locations. With a true New England feel, small towns with quaint atmospheres, as well as a great summer climate Connecticut is a great place for honeymooning. The many different resorts and hotels here offer the ultimate in relaxation and charm. If you are looking for the charm and small town feel of a bed and breakfast, the state has a lot to offer. One such bed and breakfast worth looking into is the Swan Cove Bed and Breakfast in New Haven, Connecticut. Located within a short walk from the Atlantic Ocean, this Queen Anne style house contains lodgings that are perfect for romance. Three guest rooms and one suite are all that are available here, meaning that you will receive the attention to detail and personal service that cannot be found in larger resorts. Amenities include a bountiful breakfast served in the adjoining Barn, although breakfast in bed can also be arranged. A special honeymoon option includes candlelit breakfast in your room, a romantic dinner at the nearby Sage Grill, and even a bottle of champagne to celebrate the special event. Another romantic option in the state is the Wallingford Victorian Bed and Breakfast, in Wallingford, Connecticut. This bed and breakfast inn offers honeymooners beautiful suites and deluxe rooms, all appointed with Victorian antiques. Amenities include a delicious breakfast daily, as well as modern conveniences such as a fax, free wi-fi, printer and more. Your stay will include rooms with oversized whirlpools, dinners at local restaurants, wine in your room and more. A small number of guest rooms as well as interesting small town activities make this bed and breakfast feel more like a home away from home with you as the valued guest. Why Don’t You Have Ten Times as Many Clients? You Could!

Monday, August 27th, 2007

By Charlie Cook You know that hundreds, if not thousands, of people want and need your products and services. You’re spending good money on advertising and mailings and you have a great looking website up, but you’re still not getting all the clients you want or could handle. Why aren’t more people responding to your marketing? The most likely reason is your small business marketing materials aren’t answering the questions your prospects are asking about your goods and services. Imagine you wanted a new car and walked into a dealer’s showroom. You spot the sleek looking model youre interested in and go over to take a look. It’s at this moment that a salesman walks up to you and introduces himself. You start asking him questions about what makes this car worth so much, what it’s good for, what features are included, guarantees, etc. Then you ask him if you can take the car for a test drive. now imagine that the salesman responded to each question with a shrug and said, ‘You’ll just have to buy it to find out if it is what you want.’ If the salesperson couldn’t or wouldn’t answer your questions, you’d most likely walk out and head for a car dealer where they could give you detailed answers to all your questions. You don’t want your prospects to walk away and possibly turn to one of your competitors do you? Of course not. But if your marketing isn’t answering your prospects’ questions you’re going to continue to see most prospects walk away from your marketing materials and look to make their purchase elsewhere. My small business clients generally report that once they meet with a prospect, they can close 20 to 50% of sales. The problem is getting prospects to contact you or selling services and products without a sales conversation at all, through the Internet or direct mail. Your marketing has to be as good as you are face-to-face. Is it? Bob and Dennis from Kansas called with just this small business problem. Once they meet with a prospect and present their information, their closing rate is almost 50%. The problem was that despite getting ten thousand visitors to their web site in the last couple of months, only a handful of these had contacted them. You can’t close more sales without qualified leads. When you’re face-to-face with a prospect, you know how to get a conversation going and to answer all the questions they have about your products and services. Prospects reading a sales letter or your web site or listening to an ad also need their questions answered. No answers, no sales. Once I explained to Bob and Dennis how to focus their web site marketing and use it to answer their prospects’questions, and they made the necessary changes to their site, they saw their leads and sales surge. So what are the questions your small business prospects would ask if you were meeting with them? What do they want to know in order to be convinced you can help them? What are the questions your marketing needs to answer? What information should your marketing materials give prospects in order to make a sale? Whether you’re marketing a product or a service, your prospects want to know: - Who is it for?- What’s the primary problem it solves?- How will I be better off with it?- Will it really do what youre telling me it will?- What specifically will it do to solve my problem or answer my concern?- Is this information for real?- Is it the newest or latest model?- Who else has bought it? What did they think of it?- Why should I trust you?- Is yours the best company to get this item from?- Is it a fair value?- I really want it, but how can I justify spending the money?- Do I really need it now?- Why should I make this purchase today, or this week?- How can I make sure I’m not making a mistake?- Okay, Im ready to get it, but tell me again why I should want it?- If I buy it, how complicated will it be to use? What kind of help will I get?- How long will I have to wait to get it?- Yes, I made the purchase, tell me again why it was worth all the money I spent?- I own it, now how can I get the most of out it? Want ten times as many clients? Start by giving your prospects ten times as many reasons to contact you and buy from you and you’ll see your sales soar. If your small business marketing isn’t generating all the clients you can handle, it’s not giving prospects the information they need to make a decision to contact you or buy. You can keep using the same small business marketing strategy, the same marketing materials and the same marketing copy and get the same results or you could discover how to give your prospects the information they want and see your sales skyrocket. 2006 In Mind Communications, LLC. Walking the Thin Line

By Terry Coyier Impulsivity thats how this all started. I ran across it as a symptom of bipolar somewhere in my endless hours of research. It was an exact fit for much of my behavior, thus peaking my interest. Some of the forms it takes are impatience, risk taking, spur of the moment thinking, underestimated sense of harm, extraversion, sensation and pleasure seeking, rapid decision making and the inability to resist temptations and the expression of it in an inappropriate environment. This definitely sounded like me. Well, my impulsivity research has lead to more information on borderline personality disorder (BPD) than anything else. So, since I found that BPD is often comorbid with bipolar, I thought I might as well share what I discovered. DIAGNOSIS BPD usually surfaces in the early twenties, but like anything there are no hard and fast rules. A continual pattern of unstable interpersonal relationships, poor self-image, impulsivity, anger and fear of abandonment are the hallmarks of this disorder. Unfortunately common symptoms occur in mood disorders, schizotypal personality disorders, paranoid personality disorder, ADHD and a host of others. It is estimated that nearly 6 million Americans suffer from BPD. To be classified as BPD, the DSM-IV states that you must meet five or more of the following criteria: 1. Frantic efforts to avoid real or imagined abandonment 2. A pattern of unstable and intense interpersonal relationships 3. Identity disturbance markedly and persistently unstable self-image or sense of self 4. Impulsivity in at least two areas that are potentially self damaging: *Spending *Sex *Substance abuse *Gambling *Reckless driving *Binge eating 5. Recurrent suicidal behavior, gestures or threats or self mutilating behavior 6. Affective instability due to marked reactivity of mood 7. Chronic feelings of emptiness 8. Inappropriate, intense anger or difficulty controlling anger 9. Transient, stress related, paranoid ideation or severe dissociative symptoms Associated features include a depressed mood, addiction or dramatic/erratic antisocial personality. Some suffer from transient psychotic-like symptoms (e.g. hearing their name being called) during times of stress. People with BPD may undermine their own goals by sabotaging themselves right before nearing the completion of the goal. Many feel more secure with transitional objects (e.g. pet or inanimate objects) than they do having interpersonal relationships. Despite the continuum of relationship problems they have, they may deny that they are the problem. In fact, often they blame others for their difficulties. The following is a list of feelings and behaviors that are common among people with BPD: Affect * Helplessness or hopelessness or worthlessness * Guilt * Shame * Anger (including frequent expressions of anger) * Anxiety * Chronic/episodic depression * Loneliness * Boredom * Emptiness Cognition * Odd thinking * Unusual perceptions * Non-delusional paranoia * Quasi-psychosis Impulse Action Patterns * Substance abuse/dependence * Sexual deviance * Manipulative suicide gestures/self-mutilation * Other impulsive behavior (gambling, reckless driving, binge eating) Interpersonal Relationships * Intolerance of aloneness * Abandonment, engulfment, annihilation fears * Counter dependency * Stormy relationships * Manipulative * Dependency * Devaluation * Masochism/sadism * Demanding * Entitlement STATISTICS Common Childhood Histories of People with BPD * Physical Abuse * Sexual Abuse (40-70%) * Neglect * Hostile Conflict * Early Parental Loss or Separation General Information * BPD occurs in an estimated 2% of the population * People with BPD comprise nearly 10% of the patients seen in out-patient clinics * 15-20% of in-patient admissions are for BPD * Sufferers of BPD comprise 30-60% of the clinical population with personality disorders * 3:1 ratio of women to men who have BPD * 69-75% of BPD sufferers resort to self mutilation Miscellaneous * 3-10% of completed suicides are by people with BPD (50 times higher than the general population * Difficulty with academic, occupational or role functioning. People suffering with BPD have trouble holding down jobs due to their behavior, especially anger or aggression. * Physical handicaps or scars Results from self-mutilating can cause embarrassment, shame and guilt thus causing the action to repeatedly cycle. * Social costs Only about 1/2 of BPD sufferers will have a stable job or marriage after attaining functional roles 10 - 15 years after being admitted to a psychiatric facility. * Medications and Therapy Recent studies do show a greater lifetime usage of most major categories of medications and of most types of psychotherapy than do patients with schizotypal, avoidant, OCD or patients with major depression. DIFFERENTIAL DIAGNOSIS A professional should always do a diagnosis of anything. And I mean ANYTHING. If your tree is losing its bark you call a specialist to figure out the problem. If you have problems with your physical health you go to a medical doctor. If you are having problems that are emotional or mental in nature you go to a psychologist or psychiatrist or both. This is not something to fool around with. Never try to self-diagnose or diagnose someone else. Articles, books and information on the Internet are simply meant to provide you with facts, ideas and options. They should be used to help you decide if maybe you need to see a professional. Remember, I’m not a doctor, I just play one on the Internet - so don’t take my information to be the absolute truth. The reason you want to see a professional is that lists of symptoms from any source, including the DSM-IV, are tools that they use along with special training to provide you with a correct diagnosis. In fact, it is so difficult a job to diagnose illnesses that many of us have been misdiagnosed or had our diagnosis changed as other symptoms presented themselves. This is because so much of the criteria for one illness may also be close to or the same as that of another illness. Also, a professional relies on what they see and what we tell them to make a diagnosis, and let’s face it, the mentally ill are not always forthcoming with their problems to someone they just met. Some people are never completely honest with their doctors and don’t realize they are only hurting themselves. Ok, enough preaching on my part, on to some examples. Features such as affective instability and impulsivity are criteria for BPD and bipolar disorder, Hopelessness and suicidal symptoms are major symptoms for BPD and also for clinical depression. It can be particularly difficult to differentiate between dysthymic disorder and BPD since the symptoms mimic each other. The major difference between these symptoms is the motivation behind them. With BPD interpersonal stressors such as rejection, abandonment, feelings of emptiness and self-condemnation trigger these symptoms. To give you an idea of how tough a psychiatrist’s job is let’s take one of the big symptoms of BPD - ANGER. Often it is referred to as “pathological aggression” and it is a symptom of the following illnesses: *Borderline Personality Disorder *Bipolar Disorder *AD/HD (ADD, ADHD) *Psychotic disorders *Dysthymia *Antisocial Personality Disorder *Major Depressive Disorder *Psychoactive substance intoxication and withdrawal *Pervasive developmental disorders *PTSD *PMDD *Intermittent Explosive Disorder *Kleptomania *Pyromania *Pathological gambling TREATMENTS The treatment for BPD is similar to that of most mental disorders medication and psychotherapy. As mentioned earlier, the sufferers of BPD show a high lifetime average of compliance with both of these treatments. Neuroleptics are particularly recommended for the psychotic symptoms and for patients who show anger, which must be controlled. Antipsychotics and antidepressants are used but should only be for short term use as needed to control symptoms. If BPD is comorbid with bipolar disorder then a mood stabilizer should be used as well. In fact, Depakote has been shown to diminish interpersonal sensitivity, anger, hostility and depression. Like all personality disorders, BPD is intrinsically difficult to treat. Besides basic cognitive behavior therapy a newer psychotherapy by Marsha Linehan has proven to be very effective. It is called Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and is quite intensive. It seeks to teach the client how to learn to better take control of their lives, their emotions, and themselves through self-knowledge, emotion regulation, and cognitive restructuring. Personality disorders, by definition, are long-standing ways of coping with the world, social and personal relationships, handling stress and emotions, etc. that often do not work, especially when a person is under increased stress or performance demands in their lives. Treatment, therefore, is also likely to be somewhat lengthy in duration, typically lasting at least a year for most. PERSONAL EXPERIENCES In an effort to understand the plight of the BPD sufferer, I read many personal stories. What I discovered is that a few common themes infiltrated most of them. First is the amount of pain that is held inside that seems to be completely unbearable by the person. By most accounts the pain is indescribably horrendous and there is a universal belief that no one could possibly understand the depth of it no matter how hard they tried. This leaves them feeling alone, left out, scared and empty. Many will withdraw within themselves, thus the cycle of losing the sense of self begins. Eventually many end up with no sense of who they really are as a person. This hurt is typically triggered because of a fight, falling out or disappointment with someone who is very close to them. When they decide to make a friend or have a lover, that person becomes the center of their world so any conflict is a terrifying situation. In turn, once they have rejected a person, that person no longer exists to them. During these conflicts someone with BPD can resort to tremendous acts of rage. Often they become violent or get into screaming matches with the person who has caused their pain. The black and white thinking that takes place in their mind makes it impossible to reason with them during these times. Their lashing out can be a way of controlling a situation and often they feel it is not the real them that is acting out. In other words, they dissociate or sometimes even split their personality. After these rages comes the overwhelming sense of guilt and shame. Without proper coping skills most will resort to some sort of self-harm. It seems to be the only way they can get the pain out of them even though it is a temporary solution and most seem to know that. An unusual paradox that takes place with BPD sufferers is the need to push loved ones away, yet most have a horrible fear of being left alone. They identify themselves in others and if left alone its as if they are nothing. This goes back to that loss of self and the inescapable pain they have trapped within. Most of this pain can be traced back to early childhood. Most of what I read mentioned childhood tragedies such as abandonment, emotional or physical abuse, sexual abuse or repeated rejection. Some of the stories brought me to tears thinking about what they had to endure and it helped me to understand why they push their true selves so far back that they dont know who they are anymore. Well, I found a lot more of myself in here than just the impulsivity that started the whole thing out. I identified with many other symptoms, especially the feelings of abandonment since my father left when I was 4 years old and I didnt see him again for 19 years. I am always afraid of men leaving me. Certainly those who know me also know that I have quite a temper and can rage over the slightest thing. But, I dont have BPD and I feel for those that do. It is my sincere hope that if you identify yourself in this article and think you may fit some of the criteria that you seek professional help. It can only make things better. And, even though you may feel like nothing and may feel worthless youre not. YOU ARE WORTH SOMETHING! Help yourself come into the light and out of the darkness of despair. Terry J. Top Tips to Get What You Pay For Online

Friday, August 24th, 2007

By Willett Thomas It seems like only a few years ago, when shopping online was akin to the wild, wild West — limited to use by those with true grit and an adventurous spirit. And, is it any wonder? With so few stores set up to sell their items through the Internet, who among us had the time to waste, when we could just as easily do our shopping at the “brick and mortar” equivalents. This left this new frontier mainly to those in pursuit of those items not readily found in stores at that time, the exotic: Persian rugs, rare books, and other collectibles. Years ago, if you told someone you had no qualms about shopping online, that you willingly provided your credit card information to anonymous customer service reps free floating in cyber space, most figured your credit probably wasn’t all that great to begin with. Those very “brick and mortar” stores, which had once declared online shopping a fad, an endeavor doomed to go the way of pogo sticks and drive-in theatres, have had to bow down and acknowledge the success of industry giants like: Amazon.com and ebay. These same naysayers, which now credit their online enterprises with providing the lion’s share of their revenues, will do whatever’s necessary to encourage customers to shop online, advertising their largest discounts through their website; with these discounts often considerably greater than the ones offered by their mail order catalogues and landlocked sites. Not Your Mom and Pop’s Online Rug Shop Today’s online shopping isn’t limited to exotic Persian rugs anymore. It’s comprised of stores selling everything from: hardware, clothing, magazines and carpeting to gourmet food, cigars and tires. Then you also have your Bombaycompany.com, Kmart.com, EthanAllen.com, Snan.comall, heavy hitters when it comes to supplying decor for the home or office. Any viable enterprise once found only on Main Street U.S.A., is now sure to be represented by hundreds, and sometimes thousands of comparable cyber space online storefronts. Everyone: college students, grandmothers, teachers, dancers — even rug rats as young as seven — can be found navigating and shopping Internet sites with ease and confidence. But as with all new technologies, knowing what to do, along with those things that shouldn’t be attempted, will help insure all your online shopping experiences are great ones. A Few Cyber Highway Rules to Keep You on Course Be a Savvy Consumer Make yourself familiar with any site your plan to shop from. If you’ve never heard of the store, then find someone who has. Call the number listed under: Contact Us. Look the company up on the Better Business Bureau’s site to see if anyone’s registered a recent complaint against the site. Guard your privacy. Don’t give out personal information to just anyone who emails you. So often, when we visit sites, we are asked to register with our email address, it only days later (sometimes even soon), when you begin receiving bogus emails asking for additional information, such as your credit card account number. It’s a ruse. Often, they’ve gotten enough information from your initial registration at their site to make your think that you’ve done business with them in the past. Place your online orders only on secured web servers. These web addresses always begin with https while unsecured web pages begin with http. Get into the habit of looking for sites whose addresses begin with this when shopping online. Depending on your web browser, these sites may also be denoted by a small lock seen in the lower corner of your computer screen. This lock should always be in the closed position, never the open position. Don’t use obvious passwords. Try not to use the same password for different sites. One of the keys to keeping your online information out of the hands of others, is to always keep them guessing. If your nickname is Tigger, although easy for you to remember, it’s also fairly easy for someone else to figure out too. Their Your Rights, Know Them If you possible, use the same method of payment for all your online transactions. This will make it easy on you when the statement comes in. This allows you to easily distinguish authorized payments from nonauthorized payments. Understand the return and refund policies of the company. You may not want to do a lot of business with an online store providing only a store credit on returns, especially if you thought you were purchasing an Oriental rug for the living room, but it turns out to be a rug better suited to a child’s room. Take a minute or two to carefully read the fine print before you hit the “I read and I agree” button. The company puts these caveats in fine print for a reason. Don’t assume a 3-5 day delivery date is standard business practice. Most sites offer express shipping at a higher charge than regular UPS. Read the shipping policy before placing an order. Know what warranties you are being offered on the products you purchase from the site. Most online stores selling appliances and electronics are more than happy to sell you their extended warranty. But do you need it? Find out what’s covered under the manufacturer’s warranty, then decided whether or not that’s enough coverage. Let’s Make a Deal There’s no reason not to compare prices, especially when it only a matter of mouse clicks. If you know what the competition is offering, then you’re in a much better position to get the best price. Many sites will be meet or better the competition’s best price, if asked to. Lookout for hidden fees. These costs account for the majority of shipping and handling fees accessed by online shopping sites. Check to see if these fees seem reasonable for item you are thinking of purchasing. Order early for special occasions like Mother’s Day, Christmas, and birthdays. It’s a special day, and receiving the item on time helps insure it remains this way. Know Where You’ve Been Keep good track of dates, amounts spent, and description of the items purchased from the sites you’ve visited. Keep all your online receipts and website page printouts. This will make it that much easier to check what’s delivered against what you actually ordered online. But most importantly, if an online shopping site looks as if it might not be on the up and up, don’t chance it. Whether their selling bamboo rugs or Waterford crystal, it’s certainly not worth risking your good name and credit to find out for sure. Weddings - Wedding Plan - Wedding Planner Tools - Ten Essential Tips

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2007

By Tom Downward Getting Married? Congratulations! You just set the date for the most important day in your life. Your wedding day. Imagine…It is your wedding day. Your very own wedding day! It will be fun. Here are ten essential steps that will make the preparation fun too. 1. Keep within your financial limits. Budget your wedding. You do not want to start your married life in debt. If you are organized have a plan and are creative, whatever your budget, a “wedding to remember” will be yours. 2. Now Visualize. Thats right, visualize. Close your eyes and look at the tasks at hand. The list may SEEM overwhelming but it isn’t. 3.Don’t try to do everything all at once. Start by gathering information. Use the Net to gather ideas from around the world. Make an extensive list of “things you LIKE”, “things you WANT” and “things you MUST HAVE” (see the difference?) 4. Now you are ready to make a Top Ten (or top eleven or twelve) list. 5. Break your list it into small manageable portions that you can successfully accomplish. Use categories like… Before the wedding - During the wedding - After the wedding. 6. Now use sub categories. Include ideas for related events such as, showers, receptions, and honeymoon. 7. It is YOUR wedding. It reflects YOU. No one should dictate to you what to do and how to do it. You may seek advice, ideas and wisdom but in the end each final decision is yours. 8. What this means is don’t be shy! Accept assistance when offered and solicit involvement, help and ideas from those you believe will be an asset. 9.Add your personal touches. For example; if you have children you may consider making them an important part of your wedding. 10. Pick a few aspects of your wedding and make them personalized. A personal touch makes a wedding meaningful to the bridal couple, their attendants, family and all invited guests. In summary, your wedding is a serious moment for declaring your love and commitment to each other. Make your wedding truly a one-of-a-kind event. Fill it with cherished moments and keepsakes. Whether you choose a favorite theme, a special setting or an intimate gathering of friends and loved ones, enjoy the journey. Perhaps, the memories and keepsakes may stay with you forever. Treasure them! And may you have a Happy, Happy day! Business and Market Overview on Vietnam

Monday, August 20th, 2007

By Khal Mastan ECONOMY. In 1986, the Vietnamese government abandoned its Marxist economic policy and implemented “doi moi” (renovation) involving economic structural reforms. These reforms included modernising and liberalising the economy and developing more export driven industries. Vietnam joined the Association of Southeast Asian Nation (ASEAN) and became a signatory of the ASEAN Free Trade Agreement (AFTA). The US-Vietnam Bilateral Trade Agreement in 2001 has brought major changes to Vietnam’s economy and hopes to become a member of the WTO in 2006. Vietnams GDP grew at an average of 7.3% annually in 2000-2004 and reached US$44.5 billion by 2004 and unemployment declined from 6.4% in 2000 to 5.6% in 2004. However, inflation steadily increased reaching 7.8% by 2004 and prompted Vietnams government to implement monetary and fiscal controls to manage inflationary pressures. The manufacturing sector contributed towards 40.1% of Vietnam’s GDP in 2004 while the service sector contributed 38.2%. The agriculture sector contributed towards 38.7% of the country’s GDP in 1990 but declined to 21.8% by 2004. Major industries include processed foods, garments and shoes, mining (coal and steel) cement, fertilisers, glass, tyres, paper and petroleum. Major agriculture products include rice, coffee, rubber, cotton, tea, pepper, soybean, cashew nuts, peanuts, sugar cane, peanuts, bananas, poultry and seafood. DEMOGRAPHY. Vietnamese (also known as Viet or Khin) is the major ethnic community accounting for nearly 86% of the country’s population and reside mainly in the eastern half of the country. Minorities include Chinese who live mainly in the urban areas, Khmer Crom (related to the Khmers of Cambodia), Tays and Montagnards who live in the mountainous regions of the country. In a government census, about 80% of the population do not subscribe to any religion but among those who do, 9% are Buddhist and 7% are Christians. Other religions practiced include Islam, Cao Dai and Hoa Hao. The national language is Vietnamese and languages spoken among the minorities include Tay, Muong, Khmer and Chinese (mainly Cantonese and Mandarin). English is the preferred second language but generally understood and spoken among the educated elite The majority of the Vietnamese population live in the rural areas but the proportion of the urban population is gradually increasing from 19.7% in 1990 to 26.0% in 2004. Vietnam’s largest city is Ho Chi Minh City (population 5.0 million) and Hanoi (population of 3.5 million) followed by Nai, Haiphong and Dac Lac. Household income in Ho Chi Minh City is nearly three times the national average the city accounts for nearly half of all the motorbikes in Vietnam. An estimated 20% of the population live below the poverty level and mainly from rural households. 10%-15% of the households are middle to high-income households while 65%-70% are lower-income households. INFRASTRUCTURE. Vietnam’s telecommunication systems lag behind many neighbouring countries in the region and therefore government puts great emphasis on its modernisation. Digital exchanges now connected to Hanoi, Da Nang, and Ho Chi Minh City and main lines have increased while the use of mobile telephones is growing. The national road system stretches from the northern to southern tip of Vietnam. Northern and southern Vietnam are served by two international airports and two main sea ports serving international shipping. INTERNATIONAL TRADE. Vietnam’s major trading partners are the US, Japan, China, Australia, Germany, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and South Korea. Major exports include oil, seafood, rice, coffee, cashew nuts, rubber, tea, garments and shoes. Major imports include machineries and equipments, petroleum products, fertilisers, steel products, cotton, grains, cement and motorcycles. CONSUMER USAGE OF TECHNOLOGY. There were nearly 10.1 million telephones installed in Vietnam and nearly 5.0 million mobile phone subscribers in 2004. The government is putting considerable efforts to modernise and improve the countrys telecommunication system but still lags compared to Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia. Computer penetration is low; estimates vary from 2% to 4% of the population in 2004 and an estimated 5.8 million internet users. The penetration of television is only 20% and concentrated to homes in the cities and towns. Similarly, installation of refrigerators is concentrated in the cities where 60% of the homes have refrigerators. RETAIL MARKET. Retail sales in Vietnam grew by 8%-12% annually from 2000 to 2004 brought about by increasing disposable income due to the country’s strong economic growth. Vietnamese consumers spend two-thirds of their income on retail purchases amounting to US$16.3 billion in 2004. Traditional wet markets and the “mom and pop” shops dominate the retail industry accounting for 95% of the total retail trade. Many of these retail shops measure no more than five square metres (54 square feet). Modern retail establishments are limited but gradually emerging in the country and generally locally owned businesses concentrated in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi. FOOD CULTURE. Rice and noodles are the staple food of the Vietnamese but taste preference differs by region. Foods in central Vietnam are spicier while foods in northern and southern Vietnam are less spicy and tend to be saltier. The Vietnamese often dip their foods with chilli, garlic or fish sauce to add flavour. The French colonialists introduced European style bread and bakeries into the Vietnamese food culture. Western style fast food service establishments are beginning to emerge alongside the traditional snack bars, cake shops and mobile food carts. To Lose Weight, Feed Your Brains

Saturday, August 18th, 2007

By Gabrielle Guichard When was the last time you focused so much on a task that you forgot to eat? You did not really forget, but you were too much interested in what you were working on to stop doing it and go to the fridge. Years ago, when your body was slim and your head swollen with projects, did you ever think that to be a grown up would not mean to be responsible and free? Stop looking for somebody to sue: nobody shovelled food in your mouth. Stop whining about commercials that influence you: nobody tied you up in front of the telly. Stop opening your mouth and closing your mind. You know, everybody know, that the higher the education, the lower the weight. If you point at a person you know who has a PhD and 30 extra pounds, you act exactly as those people who say that there is no correlation between smoking and lung cancer since their grand father died of old age after having smoked thousands of cigarettes. I don’t write for you. Bye bye! Now that we are between us, let’s move on to the main point. How much does this portrait look like you:You often feel incredibly bored,You think that you are more worth than what you show,If you were given a new start, you would lead your life differently,You cannot help wishing something else than getting up to go to work each morning,In fact, it looks sometimes so vain that you’d rather stay in bed.Do you recognize yourself? If yes, the choice is limited: either you fall in a depression, or you feed your brains. Since in order to get out of a depression, you would have to feed your brains, jump directly to the second solution! First, recognize your qualities and make them shine in others’ eyes. Modesty? You are not asked to show haughtiness but to get a sense of pride from your abilities. Would the world be better if Mozart’s father had shyly hidden his son’s gift? Don’t let anyone mislead you: those who advocate modesty have nothing to show. Most time, they do not want you to succeed because it would be the evidence of their own failure. They brandish their righteousness against you because it is, by far, easier to damage your chances than to improve themselves. So, be honest and recognize your qualities. Some people might advise you to devote your life to a charity cause. It is another way to prevent you from going ahead of them. Do you think that it would have been a great idea if Pasteur had chosen, out of charity, to visit the poor instead of inventing “pasteurization”? Then, choose the domain in which you will be able to scintillate. Again, do not be humble. The satisfaction of reaching a goal is proportional to the difficulty you encounter to reach it. If you aim to learn arranging flowers, sure, you will succeed, but you will feel as bored as today and your thirst for something to fulfill your life will remain as burning as it is right now. You need to be confronted with a task exciting enough to prevent you from dropping it to go out to eat, or to take time to order a pizza. If the excitement is not rewarding enough, you are going to turn towards “the fridge consolation”. Your goal must also be rather difficult to reach because you are going to need time to change your way of life; so, decide to master the violin, to write an anthology about Roman Poetry, to learn a foreign language or to obtain a degree in chemistry; anything requiring your intellectual faculties to fully work and that you will not be able to complete in a couple of weeks is an activity that deserves to be chosen. Of course, the better you like your goal, the greater your chance to reach it, but do not worry: usually, we are attracted by what we guess we are good at. Not only “decide” to change, make your decision official: proudness will help you to go on the day you are tired or disheartened. Multiply your chances to succeed by eliminating the childish desire for “telling them”. If you suffer from not being estimated at your true value, make yourself known to your own eyes. The rest will come. Within three years you are going to gain higher education that will lead you to higher income while losing extra weight. Sure, people will notice. Choosing Health Over Weight Loss

Friday, August 17th, 2007

By Glen D. Williams With the slinky look plastered on everything from magazines, to TV, to the Internet, it’s easy to lose sight of the reason we’re seeking weight loss. Many of us take from January until May to force our otherwise healthy bodies into unhealthy condition just so we can fit into the latest fashion or the sexiest bathing suit. Another group purchases and abuses the latest in special workout equipment to trim those thighs, abs or whatever. Chasing this up-and-down weight and abnormal shape are often the things that destroy our health to “look healthy.” Instead, by choosing health as our focus, we can live longer, more energetic lives and look our best in the process. Lose The Weight Loss Diet: The biggest culprit in the health and fitness industry is the weight loss diet. Strategically-placed advertising tries to convince us that we can eliminate months of weight gain in a few easy weeks. No matter the method, trying to lose weight too quickly is more dangerous to your health than just being overweight. Please consult with your doctor before using any weight loss diet. Assuming you succeed in losing weight on the diet, the next problem is how to transition back to normal life without gaining it all back. This is the yo-yo effect that endangers the health of most people who use weight-loss diets. The slogan goes…”just replace one meal a day.” Right! What’s usually in the fine print is, “…along with a healthy, well-balanced diet.” Do you want to lose weight slowly and safely? When you see your doctor, get a sample of a healthy, well-balanced diet to use and follow it…you’re going to need to, anyway. Exorcise The Exercise: These ads try to sell you specialized equipment to “sculpt” your body into what they want you to believe is the most desirable shape. Unfortunately, they use the most grotesquely abnormal men and women to depict that shape. They remind me of comic book characters. If you want to appear on “muscle beach” this summer, go for it, but don’t kid yourself into believing it’s for your health. In fact, it may be a symptom of a serious mental condition known as Narcissistic Personality Disorder. Mentally healthy people don’t need sculpted pecs, washboard abs or the wasp look so popular among women, to feel good about themselves. The fact is, feeling good is less about how we look and more about promoting our health through the right exercise. Choose Health…Eating Right…Exercise Right: Doctors will tell you people come in all shapes and sizes. Though they try to set standards for weight, the variations are so large that someone rated as “obese” on the Body Mass Index could actually be normal and healthy for their body type. Our weight goals should aim at a healthy weight for our type. They should be met by following the “along with a healthy, well-balanced diet” part of the diet plans and losing the diet products. Our shapes are dictated more by our genes than anything else, so, exercise should be to maintain our bodies in good working condition, not to reshape them into some idealistic image. Thirty minutes of aerobic exercise 3-4 days per week will do more for our health than an hour a day trying to shape ourselves. We spend billions of dollars and millions of hours each year, trying to reach an unrealistic ideal of what a healthy, vibrant, energetic person should look like. We force our bodies to do things they weren’t meant to do for the short-term result of a certain look. In fact, the long-term strategy for looking healthy is by setting health, not looks, as the goal. As an added benefit, this goal is far easier to achieve and maintain than some arbitrary shape. You may discover that the fastest and easiest way to look healthy is to be healthy. Glen Williams is Webmaster for http://www.e-health-fitness.com, founder and CEO of EHF, Inc. 6 Essential Keys to Fat Loss Success

Wednesday, August 15th, 2007

By Trey Eckerman Essential Key One: You must change your mindset You must think positive. If the only thoughts that go through your mind are about being fat or having to lose weight, your thoughts will transform into reality. You also have to set specific goals. You must write them down and review them everyday. You should envision yourself when you reach this goal living in the body of your dreams. The power of the mind is amazing. Use it to your advantage. Each night, write down what actions you did over the course of the day that led you closer to your goal. Also, write down what actions you will do the next day that will help take you one step closer. Make sure you do this every night and review it again in the morning. After a few weeks you will have a complete lifestyle map that will let you know how you complied with your program and how it has helped you. Essential Key Two: You must have a network of support If you are to truly change your body, you will have to have people you love help you. It is very hard to accomplish your fat loss goals if the ones around you are pulling you in the wrong direction. Let everyone you currently spend large amounts of time with know that you have set a goal and you intend to reach it. When you are struggling, they will help. If there are certain people in your life now that are not supportive, cut them loose. If you have expressed to them how important it is to reach your goal and they are still sabotaging your efforts, then they are not truly your friends. Find some people close to you that have similar goals and interests. If you have questions, it is very important to have someone to turn to that has been in your situation. It is also very empowering to be able to help someone out when they are struggling and in need of help. Essential Key Three: You must change your nutrition habits. There are three things you will need to change in order to efficiently lose fat. If you change these things, you will melt fat like never before. You have to eat breakfast. I know this has been repeated over and over but it cannot be overstated. The first meal of the day replenishes nutrients used during your sleep as well as crank up your fat burning furnace for the rest of the day. You will also need to eat more frequently throughout the day. The 3 squares a day mantra is one of the worst things you can do to your body while trying to lose fat. Your energy levels will be very erratic and it will cause you to binge eat, thus ruining most of your hard fought efforts through 95% of the rest of your program. You must balance fat, protein, starchy carbs and fibrous carbs. Your plate should be very colorful ensuring you are getting enough vitamins, minerals and fiber as well as protein and essential fats. Essential Key Four: You must train with resistance In order to efficiently burn fat you will need to increase or stabilize muscle mass. Muscle mass is what revs up your metabolism allowing you to burn calories while you are not in the gym. This can be achieved through resistance training. Your training will have to be intense and heavy. Stick with the basics: Squats, Pull-ups, Pushups and Hip extension movements. It does no good to lift lighter weights for more reps when you are trying to burn fat. You should always train using circuits. Dont do isolated body part training; it is a thing of the past. It is time consuming and frankly, circuit training is far superior. After you perform one exercise for a certain movement, you will do another exercise for a different movement. Both exercises should include movements which are opposite in function. You will find that you are working much harder yet spending much less time working out. Resistance train every other day. If you are training correctly with circuits, you can elevate your metabolism for approximately 38 hours after training. Your day off will allow you to recover from your previous workout and you will train again before your metabolism drops to normal levels. This will ensure maximum fat loss. Essential Key Five: You must do cardiovascular training Cut down on the slow cardio sessions. Replace them with high intensity interval training. You can pick from cardio machines, running fast paced sprints, or multiple complex movements. Perform 15 to 60 seconds of very hard work followed by 45 to 90 seconds of rest. Repeat these intervals for 15 -25 minutes. 25 minutes is the absolute longest time for cardio training using intervals. If you can do longer periods than that, you are not working hard enough. Again, you will spend less time working and burn more calories as a result. For more accelerated fat loss, you may supplement longer, slow paced cardio session a few times per week. Note that I said supplement. By no means should this be the staple of your fat loss program. It is meant only to burn a few extra calories on days you are resting. The big picture becomes trying to burn more calories when you are not in the gym. If you are focusing all of your efforts on burning a large number of calories while you are working out in the gym, you might as well start paying rent. That is where you will need to live. Essential Key Six: You must make the following keys a way of life It is very hard to maintain a lean sculpted body once you achieve it. In order to ensure that your efforts are not wasted, you will need to make each of these keys a way of life. It is said to take 21 days to form a habit. The first three weeks are critical to your success. To make these keys habits, you will have to do a lot of planning. You should always know what you are eating for the next day. Have your meals planned and prepared before it is time to eat. Also, for the first 3 weeks, schedule appointments for your workouts and always follow through with them. They will need to be the priority. Dont skip a meal; dont skip a workout. Always take it one day at a time. Focus all of your efforts on your next meal and your next workout. String good days together, they become a week. String good weeks together, they become a month. Months become years and you are finally living the life of your dreams. While these keys will ensure that your fat loss goals are met, they all have very specific requirements, which I will reveal deeper in later articles. A Diet That Works - Isn’t That What We Are All Looking For? Hurry Up!

Saturday, August 11th, 2007

By Clint Pollard Some of us need to lose more than others, but I think most of you would agree we all could stand to lose a few pounds. You may also realize the older we get the harder it is to lose weight, One reason for that could be we are not as active as we use to be, I am sure there are other reasons, but being less active in my opinion would have a big role in gaining weight as we grow older. Did you know 68% of Americans are overweight? Its true and its not getting any better. As you might have guessed I am one of those in that 68%, but I am also one of those trying to get out of the 68%. I have had some success, but the problem is this is not something you do in one week or even one month. The biggest problem I have is the fast food, as a matter of fact I had a sausage egg and cheese biscuit from a fast food restaurant this morning, saying to myself, well I will cut back on my next meal or even skip the next meal. Will I be able to skip the next meal, don’t know, haven’t got there yet. I don’t want you to think I am not trying, because I am, but you work so hard at losing the weight, you just feel like you need to reward yourself every now and then. The problem seems to be you start rewarding yourself more now than of the then. Have you ever done that? What is it going to take to lose the weight? I think we all understand being overweight is detrimental to our health, being overweight is linked to high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, stoke, heart disease and many other health problems. Our health is a good reason to want to lose weight, but there is another reason, we all want to look our best and in my case that extra weight is not helping. That’s right the extra weight hanging over my belt is not helping my looks one bit, but guess what, I have lost 8 pounds, but my stomach is still there. I have lost weight in my face and fingers and maybe a few other places, but the stomach is still there. Have you been there yet? That is why it takes longer to lose the weight than we anticipate, the part we are want to lose is the last to go. How I lost 8 pounds in 0ne month. I’m going to tell you what I did to lose the 8 pounds, but just because it worked for me doesn’t mean it will work for you. The first thing I did was cut out the fast food, except for maybe once a week. I started drinking nothing but water, I no longer do that, now that I found a soft drink that I like with no calories (coca cola zero). I would eat the same meals I always did, but I did cut out mashed potatoes and ate not bread at meal time. My wife found some butter with no calories and we used that (I can’t believe its not butter) I also used splenda instead of sugar when I had cereal. That is how I lost the 8 pounds in a month. There may be people reading this that may have different problems than I do so it is always best to ask your doctor if you should start any kind of diet program. Where do we go from here? I spend a lot of time on the Internet and as I was surfing I ran into a diet that I found interesting. They use something called the shifting calories theory. They also talk about losing 9 pounds in 11 days, much better than my 8 pounds in 30 days. If you would like to get more information on this plan you will find a link in my bio at the bottom of this article. I wish you the best, I know its not easy, but its something we all need and want to do. GOOD LUCK! Just an average guy trying to lose weight.
