Alcohol and College - Not a Great Mix

Monday, March 31st, 2008

By Felecia Sheffield PhD Each year teenagers from all over the world leave the nest heading to college. Some choose to remain close to home while others catch an airplane to arrive at their college of choice. In years past, drinking and college were considered a right of passage. However this once harmless assumption is now proving to be not only dangerous but also deadly. The National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism completed a comprehensive report looking at the impact of high risk drinking among college students entitled “A Call to Action: Changing the Culture of Drinking at U.S. Colleges.” There report found that serious consequences occur from underage drinking including injuries, accidents, assaults and death. Drinking among four-year college students has received most of the attention. However research shows that community college students are not immune to these issues either http://www.psychcore.com/binge_drinking.html. Below are tips that can help your child have a potentially safer college experience. 1. DO utilize existing resources and organizations to educate yourselves about the dangers of underage drinking. . 2. DO sit down with your teenager and talk about your concerns and position on their use of alcohol. This should be done long before the moving van is being packed. 3. DONT be vague. Discuss with your teenager their and your views regarding drinking and driving, drinking and hazing, and date rape. Ask for their opinions, concerns and how they would respond in these different scenarios. 4. DO talk frequently with your teenager about this and other issues. 5. DO talk to your teenager about how they are handling college and the pressure to drink and party. 6. DO keep the lines of communication open. Let your teenager know you are there for them even if they find themselves in trouble. About the Author: Felecia D. Sheffield, PhD, is an author, trainer, international speaker and life coach. Moving on from a Breakup

Saturday, March 29th, 2008

By George Wood The old song goes Breaking up is hard to do and boy is that an understatement. Going through a messy breakup, particularly if it is someone who has been your lover for some time, someone you have been intimate with or someone who you have shared your heart and secrets of your soul with, causes a hurt that cannot be matched by any other. Even if you are the one who initiated the breakup, their feeling of loss and separation is constant and distressing. There is a mental state called separation anxiety that describes that feeling you have when he or she was a constant part of your life, your thoughts, and your emotions . . . and now they are gone. The important thing is to figure out a way to get past this and get the breakup out of your system. The funny clich people use is to wash that guy or gal right out of your hair. Boy, if only it were just that easy! But here are some helpful ideas and concepts you can use to get your recovery from the breakup moving as quickly as possible. Give yourself some time: Expect to feel the pain of the breakup for at least two weeks and possibly several months, depending on the intensity of the relationship. Dont beat yourself up because you feel bad. Give yourself the freedom to grieve. Be good to yourself Replace the pampering and the positive effect on your self-esteem your lover gave you with your own self-support during this time. Become your own best friend. Do some special things, just you and you. Indulge a bit in some ice cream, go to a play or some event he or she would never do with you. Celebrate being single again! Embrace your support structure: If your relationship with other singles, singles groups, or friends suffered because of the huge amount of time you spent with your sweetheart, get back together with them and plan some events. Patch up any damage to those relationships and get involved in new social groups. Allow these larger social groups to replace the connections you had with your lover for a bit. This will also get you back into circulation for the next phase of your dating life. Go back to an old hobby or start one you always wanted to do. Use that creative energy you poured into that love affair to do something exciting and creative. Gardening, remodeling a room, or working on your genealogy are all things that give you a good feeling about yourself. Dont lash out: It will be easy to trash your ex to others. Dont do that. It just dredges up those bad feelings we are trying to move past. It also makes you look small and obsessive to someone who might be able to connect you to a new romantic interest, or to someone who is eyeing you romantically from afar. Flirt: You may have forgotten how. For a little while, make this your goal without dating. Just learn again the fun of teasing and flirting with the opposite sex. Write: A journal can be a great tool for healing. Another technique that works for a lot of people is venting. If you are full of anger or hurt and you just want to tell her off or tell him a thing or two, then write that letter and just cut loose. Pour all of your anger and pain and remorse and everything ugly inside into that letter. Then file it away and never send it. Or tear it to shreds and release those feelings. You just dumped your garbage into that document and now you can let it go. Make it your ambition to move on. Talk about other things and take interest in other people. Avoid alcohol or obsessive habits like too much eating or sleeping. Get outside, get a pet, work on your houseplants, or dive back in to your hobbies and other fun activities. Get out there and live again and life itself will heal the hurt that is going on inside you. DatingShare.com 100% free online dating site and matchmaking service for singles. What You Need to Know About Bankruptcy Records

Friday, March 28th, 2008

By Amit Mehta Filing for bankruptcy is a serious decision. Sometimes, when you can no longer make your payments and creditors are applying too much pressure, bankruptcy can be a welcome relief to a hard situation, but it is important to remember that filing bankruptcy leaves a long trail of bankruptcy records. Your bankruptcy records include a lot of personal information about yourself. They tell people your real name and where you reside. Bankruptcy records also reveal your social security number and all of the credit accounts you owe money to. Bankruptcy records indicate the amount of debt that you defaulted on and whether or not a lien was put on any of your property. Bankruptcy records also list your assets. Because bankruptcy records contain so much personal information, they are a great place to start when you want to do a background search on an individual or even a company. Perhaps you want to know more about a client you are interested in doing business with. Maybe you want more information about the new boyfriend or girlfriend a family member recently brought home. Possibly you are interested in learning more about the background of the person you are considering hiring at your place of business. A check into the bankruptcy records would provide many answers and vast amounts of information in any of those cases. Checking the bankruptcy records of an individual or business you are considering partnering with will help you to see a real picture of their financial stability. If they recently declared bankruptcy, they will not be in a position to get credit and that could deter your desire to work with them The bankruptcy records of individuals will show how they dealt with the repayment of debts in the past and that can help you to determine how much of your money you trust them to handle. Checking the bankruptcy records of an individual can help you to learn not only about their financial means, but about their trustworthiness. If the bankruptcy records of your daughters new boyfriend show that he failed to pay off his credit cards and had to declare bankruptcy that might give you a solid look into his character when it comes to faithfulness. Bankruptcy records tell more than numbers. They give you insight into a persons integrity. Checking the bankruptcy records of a prospective employee can also tell you a lot about the person you might hire. Are they faithful, diligent, and trustworthy? Their bankruptcy records can offer insight into the morals of the person you want to hire. If you are interested in checking out the background of an individual or company, a perusal of their bankruptcy records is one of the best places to begin. How Do You Feel About Money?

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

By Jenn Givler Have you ever day dreamed about having loads of money? I have, and I do often. Its healthy to have day dreams like that. But it wasnt always like that for me. In the not-so-distant past, my thoughts and feelings around money were full of stress and angst. Money was a consistent source of tension for me. Not any more. Ive learned to change my thinking about money. Its helped relieve a ton of stress, and its also helped me start attracting more. Try a little experiment with me. Think about the word money. How does it make you feel? Are you full of tension, angst, or any other negative emotions? If so, why do you think that is? It could be fear. You may fear that you wont have enough for that upcoming car payment. Or, you may fear that your business wont make enough this month to cover your expenses. Negative emotions around money can also be driven by feelings of lack. You feel like you dont have enough like there are things out there that you want, but you just cant have because there is never enough money. Lack-thinking can also lead to believing that there isnt enough business for you not enough clients, not enough customers. This can lead to resenting your competition. If you have negative emotions around money, I challenge you to change your thinking about money. How do you begin turning that around? Here are three steps to begin thinking differently about money: First, be honest, dont you love the thought of having a ton of money? Cmon I wont tell anyone admit it. Wouldnt it feel amazing to have a pile of money in your backyard? Having money is fabulous. Having money means security for your family. It means you can do fun things and that you can buy what you want to make life comfortable. Stop thinking of money as something youre constantly chasing and think of it as something in life that you really enjoy. Do not be confused here. Material possessions are not a replacement for love, relationships, or the things that truly matter. In other words, money really cant buy you happiness. Im not asking you to turn into a materialistic person. Im just asking you to put a different spin on how you think about money. Second, get rid of the lack mentality. When you think about money, think about the money you DO have, not the money you wish you had. When you find yourself stressed about paying the bills, turn that around and begin thinking about what have in your life already. For example, if youve got $5 in your wallet, and you find yourself stressing about the $150 phone bill, take a second and be grateful for the $5 in your wallet. I know that may sound ridiculous, but its the way to start abolishing that lack mentality. Third, realize that the idea of not enough, is a farce. Universe is abundant. Do you ever worry about not having enough air to breathe? Do you ever worry that when you turn the tap on, water wont come out? The same is true with abundance. There is unlimited abundance out there. There is abundance available to you and those you might think of as competition. Your abundance is out there, you just need to keep taking steps toward achieving it! So, how is changing your money mentality going to help you start attracting more of it? Positive thinking is going to automatically lift your spirits. When youre uplifted, and you are in a state of believing that you can achieve success, you immediately start developing ideas. When you are thinking with an abundant mind-set, you feel empowered, and you will probably be inspired to act on your ideas. Before you know it, youve taken enough action to create more abundance! My challenge to you is to start changing your thinking about money. Im not talking about living in a dream world. Im simply asking you to shift your attitude toward money. If you feel uncomfortable with this, try it for a short amount of time. Try it for an hour or two just to see what its like. If you like the way you feel, I encourage you to keep thinking differently about money. Start journaling around your experience and in a few weeks, see how things have changed for you! Finding And Choosing A Quality Online Cologne Shop - A Guide For Cheap Cologne

Monday, March 24th, 2008

By Cody Kahl With mens and womens perfume being so expensive in the offline world, many people are now turning to the internet for their fragrance needs. Certain things should be looked at though before making a discount purchase. In this article I will discuss what to look out for when buying cologne online, as well as a few good places to start your search. Go to a perfume shop online and I will bet you they have the phrase best prices emblazoned somewhere on their homepage. The fact is that a lot of these shops claim that they have the best prices, but this is simply not true. So how do you know you are getting the best price when you make a purchase? Simple ask them if they have a price match guarantee. They may say that they do somewhere on the site, but if not, send them an e-mail. Many of the top online cologne shops do have price match guarantees, so make sure and use them. Price isnt the only factor involved in buying discount fragrances. Does the site look reputable? Do they have any customer testimonials? How long have they been selling online? All of these points should be looked at when choosing a store to do business with. Imitation perfume is sometimes talked about online. I dont really think it is that common, and if you generally stick to the bigger online shops that meet the points mentioned above, you will be fine. Most online perfume shops do sell testers though, so if you do not want a tester bottle make sure it isnt listed in the product description. Lastly I would like to talk about buying fragrances on eBay auctions. Some great deals can be had by purchasing off of eBay, so it may be something you want to check out. Many of the fragrances being sold on eBay are tester bottles. Again, if this is not something you want, look good and hard for the word tester somewhere in the title or product description. The last thing you will want to look for is the sellers feedback. It seems a lot of the perfume auctioneers on eBay are power sellers with great feedback. This is good for the consumer as they can get great deals from quality suppliers. Taking the time to seek out a reputable online cologne shop that has competitive pricing will go a long way towards saving you money and trouble. *************************************************** Cody Kahl is creator and writer of Mens Cologne Guide A site dedicated to providing only the best cheap cologne information. Divorce Legal Forms

Saturday, March 22nd, 2008

By Jason Gluckman Divorce is a very important issue for a family person. It not only involves the lives of the couple, but perhaps more importantly, the lives of their children, who are sometimes of a tender age and cannot easily reconcile with the new situation. Responsible parents should, therefore, think of the welfare of their children before taking such a drastic step. However, if you have taken an irrevocable decision to part ways, it is natural to initiate the legal process, the first step of which is filling out the Legal Forms for filing the lawsuit in the court. Now unfortunately, it may happen you are short of funds to consult a lawyer, whose heavy fees may burn a deep hole in your pocket. So the cheapest course in such circumstances would be to go shopping for Legal Forms and make your own effort to start the proceedings. Legal Forms are easily available from stationery or bookstores in your local market. They are also available from law firms. The easiest way, however, is to surf the Internet, which offers innumerable sources for such forms. You can get them free of for a low price. The word free attracts those who are short of funds. But a form delivered free may be outdated and incompletely formatted, or may just be irrelevant to your state or the time. Even the paid ones may be fallacious. Get the form and, before rushing to fill it, go to your local law center or library and get the latest official version of the form. Still better, you can approach your local law court clerk and ask for the form, which can be supplied either free or at a nominal cost. It is always advisable to consult an expert lawyer in such crucial matters as divorce. Legal Forms provides detailed information about legal forms, business legal forms, divorce legal forms, free legal forms and more. Legal Forms is the sister site of Medical Power Of Attorney. Small Business Marketing Secrets - Use Multiple Media for Best Results

Saturday, March 22nd, 2008

By Kevin Stirtz There is a commercial on our cable television that supposedly shows why TV ads are better than radio ads. The commercial ends with a pictures of an old fashioned radio and the word mangia which is Italian for eat. It’s entertaining and clever. But does it really demonstrate why one advertising medium is better than another? I don’t think so. The problem here is that the two media are too different to compare using the same standards and objectives. It’s not a fair comparison. The more important question is, why pick just one medium? Rather than deciding to pick one media over another, it’s often better to use several media to deliver your message. Decide on your budget, your message and your target audience. Then buy several types of media so you get the maximum exposure for your budget. Remember, the more ways a person is exposed to your message, the more credible you become. It’s like word of mouth. If one person says you’re great, I might believe it or I might not. If four people tell me you’re great I will probably believe them. When people hear your message from different sources, the various sources affirm each other. They give each other, and your message, credibility. Plus it helps you build the repetition you need, so they are more likely to remember your message and your company. When you spend money to promote your business, make it work harder for you by using several media to improve the credibility and impact of your message. —————————- More customers! More revenue! More profits! That’s what Kevin Stirtz helps companies create. Kevin is a business growth expert who helps people improve their companies. What You Need To Know About Catering

Thursday, March 20th, 2008

By Elizabeth Morgan One of the most important decisions that soon-to-be-married couples need to make with regard to their wedding reception is deciding on the type of catering service they would want to use. Usually, the decision boils down to choosing between two of the most popular options: a buffet or a sit-down meal involving servers. Making the choice would require that couples examine the pros and cons of each type so that they would be able to pick the catering service that would best fit their needs. Below are some information that can help couples. Having servers One of the most obvious advantages on having servers during a wedding reception is that is it an easy way to keep guests happy because they would not have to stand up and to fall in line to get their food or their drinks. In addition to this, having servers is also perceived as a more classy way of serving food during a reception. However, having servers also have some disadvantages, one of which is the cost, especially if the couple is expecting a large number of guests as this will entail paying for more servers. One risk that couples also need to contend with is that they would have to take the chance that the servers would be courteous to their guests. Having a buffet One of the most obvious advantages of having a buffet is your guests can choose what they want to eat from the buffet table, which is also a good way to keep guests happy during the reception. In addition to this, their guests would also get to decide on the quantity of food they can consume, which can help prevent food wastage. Another advantage is that the cost of having a buffet is relatively lower than having servers. However, one disadvantage of having a buffet is that the most popular food among guests would most likely run out before everyone gets to have them. A major decision that couples need to make is on whether they would have servers or have a buffet for their wedding reception. To help them with this choice, they need to have information on the pros and cons of each type so that they would pick a choice that would be able to make the celebration of the wedding more comfortable and enjoyable for their guests. Defeating Crime With Digital Camera Cell Phones

Monday, March 17th, 2008

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Lance_Winslow]Lance Winslow The newest techno gadget, which is reshaping the way teenagers interact is the Digital Picture Camera 3G Cell Phone. As more and more people have these and as higher bandwidth and video compression technologies are introduced we will see a whole new realm of communication. As people communicate on cell phones with video and pictures we will see a decrease in crime. Because the criminals will realize they will be caught on phone, by a number of possible passers by if they try any criminal activities. The eyes and ears of the society will evolve in scope and with that we will see random acts of theft, violence decrease. Of course there will always be the smart criminal who tries to figure out in advance a specific plan to evade detection, although the common criminality we generally see will surely render more favorable crime statistics. Those areas where people have more cash flow such as the Suburbs of large cities or in the Downtown techno sector crowds we will see lessened crime. Although the will then be a Criminal Divide in areas where less techno savvy people reside. This of course will also decrease as the price of the technology and cell phones comes down due to economies of scale, numbers of units sold and number of participants on the 3G or 3G plus systems. Many times disruptive technologies have severe effects in our economy or society at large. In this case the technologies unintended consequences brings with it a more virtuous society and decreased crime. That is a good thing. If you plan on buying a new phone, perhaps one with a camera in it is smart. SmartPhones can decrease crime. For more ideas on decreasing crime why not contact your local police departments community based policing officer or volunteer to start a Neighborhood Mobile Watch Program? http://www.lancewinslow.org/nmwp.shtml Who knows, a teenager on a skateboard may actually get a picture of an International Terrorist taking pictures of important infrastructures, or a license plate of a car, which seems to be out of place and prevent the next attack? Technology has its advantages, all too often we discuss the problems and complain about the issues of privacy. Millions of teenagers cruising around with cell phones will prevent abductions from pedophiles, rapists or child molesters. Camera Cell phones, may prevent shopping mall car thieves as more of them will be caught. Camera Cell phones are here to stay and they are getting better all the time, soon we will have full video feed phones, wireless PDAs all with GPS instant coordinate tracking. How To Make A Tan Last Longer

Saturday, March 15th, 2008

By Ross Bainbridge Most natural tans that are acquired by exposure to sun, last for long. Generally, people desire to make a tan last longer regardless of it being a natural or artificial tan. Artificial tanning formulas give a longer lasting tan when applied evenly. The application is uneven and tends to wear off quickly in case the skin is not smooth. For this reason, users are advised to exfoliate their skin prior to application. This ensures smooth skin and provides an even base for application of tan lotion. People need to apply sunless tanning solutions that are well matched to their particular skin type. Studies suggest that sprays, lotions and gels work well on oily skin, whereas heavy lotions and creams suit dry skin. It is important to leave the tanner on for specified time periods. When applying, it is advisable to start with a limited area. This way, users can tell if a certain area feels too dry and ensures even application. A number of tanning parlors guarantee professional application that can last for an estimated time period. Spray tans are known to last for at least three to five days and airbrush tans can last for up to ten days. It is difficult to make a tan last longer except if people choose to bathe often. This will not stall the process but can make it slow. A tan will effectively last till dead outer skin starts shedding because all applications react with amino acids present in this layer. In the case of a natural tan, it is equally important to exfoliate the skin. Using wet morning sand can do this, as it is a natural exfoliating agent. Once a tan is acquired, it is important to apply moisturizer. This keeps the skin soft and supple, reflects a healthy tan, along with increasing longevity of a tan. Another effective method of making a tan last longer is to keep away from long hot baths and saunas. Reducing excess sweating through strenuous physical activities can also make a tan last longer. Tan provides detailed information on Tan, Tan Lines, Self Tan, Sun Tan and more. Tan is affiliated with Lip Piercings.
